Former WWE Champion wins the United States Championship? The Celtic Warrior drops his "King" title? What's going on here? Sheamus just won the United States Championship on the March 14, 2011 edition of Monday Night Raw from Daniel Bryan. Isn't it odd that WWE would give one of their top, high-card superstars a mid-card championship? I think that this is just ridiculous. When they brought in Sheamus, they saw a lot of talent in him and did not hesitate to give him the WWE Championship. On June 30, 2009, Sheamus made his ECW debut. Two months later on December 13, 2009, he defeated John Cena for the WWE Championship. I know that WWE wouldn't just drop Sheamus down to being a mid-card wrestler, but this is just surprising. WWE must have different plans than to have him be the United States champion, but for now, this is just out of nowhere.
Sheamus also recently dropped his "King Sheamus" title. But why? At the WWE house show on March 13, 2011 in Oklahoma, Sheamus announced that "The Celtic Warrior" has returned, and that his losing streak was due to his "King Sheamus" title. Let me be the first to say that this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Sure, maybe it will be easy to convince that to little kids watching WWE, but this is just a dumb way to drop a gimmick. I can understand why he would want to change his gimmick, but it's just the way that he changed it. I have no problem with Sheamus switching back to his old gimmick, but I’m just confused about why WWE would give him the United States Championship.
