This year's Royal Rumble was amazing and full of suprises. Last night at the twenty-fourth annual Royal Rumble I couldn't believe some of the few surprise entrants in the forty man battle royal. This included Diesel and Booker T, but I was surprised at what happened to them in the match. Booker T did not even last until the next entrant after him came into the match. He was eliminated by the new Nexus just when he was about to hit his finisher. Diesel lasted a bit longer than Booker T, but not by much. He did last until a few more entrants entered the match after him, but was eliminated with a kick to the face and he fell right over the top rope. Before the Royal Rumble match began, I thought that if any old superstar would be a surprise entrant, they would last a while and come back to WWE. I was just really shocked at how quickly Booker T and Diesel were eliminated. I thought that they would last at least until toward the end of the match, but since they were eliminated early, they may not be coming back full time to WWE. Also, many people thought that Triple H would return last night during the battle royal, but WWE is still waiting to bring him back. I do not agree with WWE with this move because Triple H has been ready to come back to wrestling for months, and a suprise return at the Royal Rumble would have been a perfect way to bring him back.
The opening match of the Royal Rumble was Edge vs. Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship. Vickie came out with Dolph and added the stipulation that if Edge uses the spear during the match, he will be disqualified and lose the championship. Vickie also stood ringside during the entire match to try to distract Edge at times. I did not predict that this match would be good, but it turned out to be an ok match. WWE is pushing Dolph Ziggler by putting him in championship matches, and he did pretty good in this title match. Towards the end of the match, Kelly Kelly came out from backstage and started attacking Vickie while she was on the ring aprin distracting Edge. After Vickie was on the floor, the referee was knocked onto the ring floor. Edge sought his opportunity when he realized that Vickie and the reff were down, and he speared Dolph to retain the title. This match turned out better than I expected and I think that Edge deserved to keep the title.
The second match of the night was Randy Orton vs. the Miz for the WWE Championship. This match was just as I thought, pretty good and well-led up to. The Miz also had Alex Riley at ringside to attack Orton when he was out of the ring while Miz created distractions. The actual match was also great, but the new Nexus interfered with the match. CM Punk came in the ring from behind and hit a GTS on Randy Orton, and the Miz retained the WWE Championship. I thought that Randy Orton would win and get the title, but WWE must have confidence in the Miz by putting him over top guys like Randy Orton.
The last championship match of the night was the Divas Championship match. LayCool and Natalya were in the ring about to start the match and then the Raw General Manager sends an e-mail saying that this handicap championship match will now be a fatal-four-way championship match. The superstars in this match are Natalya, Michelle McCool, Layla, and Eve. I was actually surprised that WWE would put Eve in this match. The match began, and it did not last very long. At the end of the match, Michelle McCool was pinning Natalya and Eve was pinning Layla, but referee went to count Natalya because he only saw her. The referee still does not realize this, and Eve is crowned the new Divas Champion.
The last match was none other than the forthy man battle royal. CM Punk was the first man to the ring, and members from The Core come in and start attacking Punk, Then, the new Nexus comes out and attacks them, and the Raw General Manager sends an e-mail saying that everyone except CM Punk must go back to the locker room or else they will be disqualified from the match. The next entrant comes in and the match starts. Most of the new Nexus members dominate the match for a while until John Cena enters and clears out a few people. Then the match moves on, and the Great Khali also makes a surprise return, but he is eliminated rather quickly. The match continues for a while with Orton, Cena, Alberto Del Rio, and then Kane is the last entrant. Alberto Del Rio ends up picking up the win in the end of this match.
There were some great surprise returns, but some may have just been a one night return. Overall, this was a great Royal Rumble and very exciting to watch.
