Raw Live (In a Blizzard)

Posted by Joe on December 27, 2010 at 9:22 PM

I see Nick just posted a blog on this also, so go check his out also, but it doesn't even remotely do justice the the 24-hour crapfast that began after the show.  The show was great, Raw at MSG, like Nick, mentioned we were in a sky box which was pretty cool, and the show itself was great.  But it's hard to talk about the show because I just walked into my house after being stranded in Manhatten for 18 hours.  For those of you you haven't heard, New York City and Long Island were slammed with a monstrous blizzard last night (12/26) into the early morning of today (12/27).

I took the train into MSG on 12/26 at like 5:30, and it was naturally delayed a half hour due to the weather, which at that time was pretty bad, but not at it's worst.  Although late, the train got into Penn Station fine.  Then we head upstairs to Madison Square Garden for Raw.  Raw goes great, we were in a sky box, so it was a cool experience and the show itself was great.

Fast forward to 10:15 when the show ends.  We walk down from MSG to Penn Station to find that all LIRR trains are suspended.  After waiting in Penn for a half hour, we realize the trains aren't going anywhere anytime soon.  Outside is just ridiculous, there is a foot of snow on the ground and it's still blizzard-ing.  Rather than sleeping in dirty Penn Station and hoping the trains pick up, we go to a Hampton Inn a block and a half away and get the last room.  A block and a half isn't a lot, but it's a block and a half more than anyone should be walking in a blizzard.  The next day we just watch the news and the trains still aren't running so we decide to take the subway into Jamaica, Queens and get picked up.  18 hours after the show ended.

On to the show, though, which was very good.

The show opened with a 12-Man Over-the-Top-Rope Battle Royal, with the winner facing Daniel Bryan for the Unitied States Championship later in the night.  The match was fun, obviously it wasn't a showcase of outstanding wrestling, but it was a good match.  Zack Ryder won the match and would go on to face Bryan later in the night.

The next match was DH Smith vs. Tyson Kidd.  I cannot even begin to tell you how stupid it is to be breaking up the Hart Dyasnty now.  It's like WWE in unable to keep a tag team together for a year.  The Hart Dynasty could have easily been together for 2,3, I don't want to get ahead of myself, but even 5 years.  But breaking them up now, while they are both unestablished mid-carders can only end badly.  The fued will last for a few weeks, maybe 2-3 months, then one of them may end up as a mid-card wrestler and the other may also, or he will most likely fade-away.  The only reason I have hope that one won't fade in oblivion is because they are both trained in the Hart Dungeon, they are a legacy.  That said, the match was pretty good, both DH and Tyson are very, very good wrestlers.  Kidd defeated DH Smith with a roll-up.

The next match was The Bella Twins vs. Melina and Maryse, which The Bella Twins won when one of them pinned Melina.

Next up was Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. Justin Gabreil and Husky Harris for the WWE Tag Team Championships.  As big of a Santino fan as I am, having the Tag Team titles on him and Kozlov are kind of ruining the Tag Team Championships.  They are a joke, they are funny to have on TV, but until you "legitimize" them (i.e., stop the dance offs), then they shouldn't be champions.  The Tag Team division was getting a face-lift with the unifying of the World and WWE Tag titles, and the tag divisoin has been going good, but this is just a joke.  Marella and Kozlov won, retaining the titles.  The match wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, it was just a match.

Next was Piper's Pit, with special guest Tito Santana.  It was nice to see Piper and Santana back in the ring.  Towards the end, The Usos came out to escort the Hall of Famers out of the ring, but Santana and Piper cleared the ring.

Next up was Randy Orton vs. The Miz (w/ Alex Reily) for the WWE Championship.  The match itself ended up impressing me and being a very good match.  It ended when Alex Reily distracted Orton and The Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Orton.  After the match, though, the anonymous Raw GM sent in an e-mail saying that Reily would have to face Randy Orton right then and there.

The Reily vs. Orton match was just OK, but Orton won and it was worth having the match just to see the RKO, which always gets an insane pop from the crowd.

Next up was a very, very short match for the United States Championship, in which Daniel Bryan retained his US Title by making Zack Ryder tap out.

The mext match was Sheamus vs. John Morrison in a New York City Street Fight.  The match was very, very good and in my opinion, the match of the night.  I was surpised to see Morrison win, but then again, it was a street fight, so it wasn't a completely "clean" win, but Morrison still defeated Sheamus with a Starship Pain.

The last match of the night was John Cena vs. Wade Barrett in a Steel Cage Match.  The match long, but good and in the end Cena defeated Barrett.

That was it for the show, but like I said above, it was hardly the end of anything, with treking through a blizzard to a finding a hotel, the whole nine yards.

Below is like one picture from the show and a few of the blizzard.
