So, WWE just released 7 wrestlers, which is a ton of guys to release in one shot. Shelton Benjamin, Jimmy Wang Yang, Kung Fu Naki, Mike Knox, Slam Master J, Mickie James, and Katie Lea Burchill.
Shelton Benjamin - To me, this one is the most suprising. It really is ashame, he is such an amazing athlete, but he was just never able to get over with the crowd as a heel or face. Even though he was never all that over with the crowd, though, it seemed like he had a steady role in WWE in the mid card, being in Money in the Bank every year.
Jimmy Wang Yang - I don't want to sound like a mark, but I kind of always liked Jimmy Wang Yang. He had a stupid gimmick, an odd look, evne his entrance song was "out there", but it all clicked in a weird, disfunctional gimmick. Obviously that isn't the gimmick of a main eventer, but I liked it a little. Ever since the demolition of the Cruisierweight division, though, he would hardly appear on TV, jobbing maybe once every 2-3 months.
Kung Fu Naki - Another victim of the demolition of the Cruiserweight division. Again, we haven't really seen Kung Fu Naki much, so I'm not terribly surprised.
Slam Master J - I absolutly, 100% hated this gimmick, and I'm not happy this guy is out a job, but I would be lying if I said I'm not happy I never have to see Whitey McWhite-White with corn rolls again. Jesse and Festus were a tag team, they broke up and Festus (Luke Gallows) is now the one seeing success.
Mike Knox - A bit of a suprise, but I'm not shocked. He got a little push on Smackdown!, and then faded out.
Katie Lea Burchill - Not really surpised, ever since Paul Burchill was released, I kind of was waiting for this to happen.
Mickie James - I'm not surprised, but I did not see this coming. It's been rumored for a while, but she is one the best divas I didn't think it would really happen. I really am disappointed, I really thought she was the best female wrestler WWE had. One note, though, I don't think it's a coincidence that WWE released Maria and Mickie, two divas that have recently have pursued other career interests, singing for both of them. However, other reasons for Mickie's release have surfaced, but there could be more than one factor.
One note, I mentioned the Cruiserweight division a few times, I just want to out out there, as I get asked this a lot, I do think it was a HUGE mistake to scrap the Cruiserweight division.
