WWE Supershow at MSG Live Report

Posted by Joe on June 20, 2010 at 1:40 AM

As I'm sure most of you have figured out by now, I did go to the WWE Supershow on June 19 at Madison Square Garden, so my live report is below.

The show opens with Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre for the Intercontinental Championship, which suprised me and turned out to be a very, very good match.  Kingston, of course, retained his IC title.  After the match, though, Matt Hardy ran in and attacked McIntyre, and was chased out by some referees.

Next was MVP and Christian vs. Luke Gallows and the Masked S.E.S. Member.  Unlike the first match, this wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't bad at all.  The Masked S.E.S. Member wasn't in his jeans and sweater, he was in wrestling gear, with a mask.  I'm sure a good number of people thought he was CM Punk, even though he had long pants on and not trunks.  MVP and Christian won.

Next was Kane vs. CM Punk, which to my suprise Kane won clean.  CM Punk came out first and talked a bit, of course.  The match was a good match, but the match of the night at this point is still Kofi vs. McIntyre.

The next match was a Fatal Four Way Match for the United States Championship, The Miz defending against Evan Bourne, Mark Henry, and R-Truth.  The match started slow, but by the end there was a some pretty good stuff going on.  For majority of the match, though, there was none of the 4-man mayham you want to see in a Fatal Four Way, The Miz would throw Henry and R-Truth out of the ring and go one on one with Bourne, then Bourne would swap out with Henry, and Truth would swap out with Miz.  Towards the end you did see some spots with everyone in the ring.  The Miz evantually won and retained.

The next match was Jack Swagger vs. the Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship.  The first 5 minutes was Big Show joking around and rubbing his butt on Swagger and the referee (I don't get it either).  Then they actually decided to wrestle.  It was a slow match, for the most part, but picked up towards the end.  Kane came out and chokeslammed Big Show, even though it looked more like a sweep as Big Show was lifted a whopping 6 inches off the mat.  I guess it was a no-DQ match because Swagger pinned Big Show who had just been chokeslammed and won, plus previously in the match Swagger had used a chair and title belt on Big Show.  I missed the entrances and introductions because I had some important business to attend to concerning the ice cream stand on the main concourse, so I didn't hear the type of match.  So, Swagger wins, but after the match Kane chokeslams Swagger too.

**Intermission**

The first match after the intermission was LayCool and Maryse vs. The Bella Twins and Eve with Santino Marella as the Guest Referee.  You know little movie they play on their DVDs and live at the arena which goes like "They Put Their Bodies, Their Careers, and Their Lives On The Line....Please, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME".  Now, with that voice over they show Hardcore Holly's grand canyon sized gash, people being thrown into thumbtacks, just brutal stuff.  I would love to have that voice over a compilation of every divas match in WWE for the past 2-3 years.  Hair pulling, slapping, "Extreme Make-over matches", crappy wrestling moves, and bad attempts to get the crowd riled-up.  My point is, I don't even know what to say about the match, it was a WWE divas match, 'nuff said.  Eve and the Bellas won, though.

Next was Edge vs.Randy Orton.  An OK match, I know they could have had a much, much better match though.  Randy Orton won after hitting Edge with an RKO.

The last match of the night was John Cena vs. Sheamus for the WWE Championship.  Cena and Sheamus had a very good match.  It never really lost the crowd, was paced nicely, it was a solid match.  There was something that bugged me, though, not a major thing, but just a stupid thing.  Cena was outside of the ring, so Sheamus went down there too.  Sheamus threw Cena into the steel steps, then set up the steel steps again and threw Cena into them.  This is took about 2 minutes.  Thats 120 seconds.  Just a tad longer than a 10-count.  Then after Cena and Sheamus had been fighting on the outside for quite some time, the referee begins his count.  Not a big deal, but it just makes you rool your eyes and say "Why".  Cena and Sheamus had been going at it for quite some time, and then Wade Barrett ran in.  He attacked Cena, then all the other rookies joined him.  (Except Bryan Danielson because apparently the best wrestler in the world today isn't PG enough).  Then whole Raw roster poured out and cleared the ring of the NXT guys and that was that.

The end the show, Cena cut a little promo.  He mentioned that he couldn't wait to be right there, at MSG, for WrestleMania 30.

Overall, it was a pretty good show.  The best match was Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre, which was a nice suprise.  I couldn't fit this is into the "main" section of the live report, but Kelly Kelly was the "guest hostess" for the show.  She threw out some T-shirts and picked a kid to be the guest bell ringer.  Kelly Kelly, by the way, should never be allowed within 10 feet of a microphone again.
